The drive shaft operates offset from the crankshaft, allowing a first reduction between the crankshaft and the drive shaft and a second reduction between the drive shaft and the gearbox inside the lower unit. This system allows for the installation of large-diameter propellers to maximize the engine’s propulsion efficiency.
The DF70A is equipped with an oil-bath timing chain and automatic valve clearance adjustment that requires no periodic maintenance, as a hydraulic tensioner keeps the chain tension always optimal.
