Beneath the cowling, the Suzuki DF250 houses a powerful 6-cylinder, 3,614 cc engine with 4 valves per cylinder and dual overhead camshafts. It features a driveshaft offset from the crankshaft, allowing a first reduction between the crankshaft and the driveshaft and a second reduction between the driveshaft and the gearbox inside the lower unit. This mechanism enables the use of large-diameter propellers to fully exploit the engine’s propulsive efficiency.
It also shifts the center of gravity forward, providing better balance, reduced vibration, and greater stability while underway.
Suzuki’s multi-stage induction system delivers the correct amount of air to the cylinders according to engine rpm for optimal performance. At lower engine speeds, air enters the combustion chamber through a longer intake path, providing improved torque through the mid-range.
At higher engine speeds, the system’s intake manifold valve opens, allowing a direct airflow path to the combustion chambers. The result is a shorter, less restrictive intake route, improving throttle response and maximum power output.
The advanced sequential multi-point electronic fuel injection system collects operational information from a series of sensors located at key points in the engine, processes it, and calculates the optimal air-fuel mixture required for startup. Boaters can benefit from easy starts, maximum efficiency, excellent fuel economy, and reduced emissions.
